What medical assistance can cover.

Some people need help paying for a prescription. Others need tests, treatment or recovery costs. We look at each request and help with the cost that is stopping someone from receiving care.

A car for Ahmed. An easier journey to treatment.

سيارة لأحمد... ورحلة أقل مشقة للوصول إلى العلاج.

Ahmed is 35, a father of three living near Fayoum, Egypt. He has Pompe disease, a rare genetic condition that can cause muscle weakness and breathing problems. His treatment is covered, but getting to Cairo for it has never been easy.

Every two weeks, Ahmed has to make a journey of more than two hours each way. Before buying the car, that meant several connections and a lot of walking. He often returned exhausted, making it harder to work and spend time with his family.

Thanks to our donors, Salsabeel Charity raised CAD $3,500 and funded the purchase of a reliable used car for Ahmed. He now has a more manageable way to reach his regular treatment appointments.

Ahmed recently met Salsabeel co-founder Nehal with his family to thank everyone who helped. The car cannot change his diagnosis, but it can make the journey to treatment much less difficult.

أحمد يبلغ من العمر ٣٥ عامًا، وهو أب لثلاثة أطفال يعيش قرب الفيوم. يعاني من مرض بومبي، وهو مرض وراثي نادر قد يسبب ضعفًا في العضلات ومشكلات في التنفس. ورغم أن تكاليف علاجه مغطاة، فإن الوصول إلى العلاج في القاهرة لم يكن سهلاً.

يحتاج أحمد إلى السفر إلى القاهرة كل أسبوعين، في رحلة تستغرق أكثر من ساعتين في كل اتجاه. وقبل شراء السيارة، كان عليه التنقل بين عدة وسائل مواصلات والمشي لمسافات طويلة. وكان يعود مرهقًا، مما يصعّب عليه العمل وقضاء الوقت مع أسرته.

بفضل متبرعينا، جمعت جمعية سلسبيل الخيرية ٣٬٥٠٠ دولار كندي وموّلت شراء سيارة مستعملة موثوقة لأحمد. وأصبح بإمكانه الآن الوصول إلى مواعيد علاجه المنتظمة بمشقة أقل.

التقى أحمد مؤخرًا مع أسرته بنهال، إحدى مؤسسي سلسبيل، ليشكروا كل من ساهم. السيارة لا تغيّر طبيعة مرضه، لكنها تجعل رحلته إلى العلاج أسهل بكثير.

A story of recovery

Mohammed’s recovery and return to school.

In 2022, Mohammed Ahmed, then 12 years old, was struck by a speeding car and suffered a serious fracture to his right leg.

His initial surgery was mostly covered, but follow-up treatment and extensive rehabilitation were not.

Salsabeel contributed more than $1,000 to help cover costs that were beyond his family’s means.

The assistance helped Mohammed continue his recovery while easing pressure on a family already affected by caregiving and lost work.

Recovery update

By 2025, Mohammed was walking again and had returned to school. Timely follow-up care helped him recover and resume his normal life.
