Salsabeel is run by volunteers in Canada and Egypt. They help plan programs, keep in touch with local families, organize distributions, and maintain the charity’s communications and website.

Volunteers work in Siwa, Borg El Arab and Canada to plan programs, distribute food and keep the charity running.

Local liaison · Siwa Oasis

Omar Diab

Local liaison in Siwa Oasis.

Omar was born and raised in Siwa Oasis, where his family has deep roots. After graduating from the University of Alexandria, he returned home and built a career as a local guide and hotel manager. His knowledge of Siwa and the relationships he has formed there help Salsabeel understand what families need and how best to support them.

Omar began working with Salsabeel after meeting co-founder Nehal Azab. Their shared interest in community service grew into an ongoing partnership between Egypt and Canada. He speaks Arabic, English and Siwi, the local Amazigh language, and brings warmth, energy and a strong sense of responsibility to his role.

Mohammad Khalifa

Community volunteer in Siwa Oasis.

Mohammad is from Siwa and graduated from the College of Administrative Systems and Information. He became involved with Salsabeel after seeing Omar’s work in the community and wanted to contribute. Because he knows the area and its people well, he helps the team understand local needs and deliver assistance more effectively.

He also serves on the board of a local contracting company. The experience he brings from that role, along with his steady commitment to his community, supports Salsabeel’s food, education and medical programs in Siwa.

Abdullah Youssef

Food-program volunteer in Siwa Oasis.

Abdullah is a 24-year-old workshop owner in Siwa. He makes salt lamps and other handmade products inspired by the oasis’s salt heritage. As Omar’s friend and neighbour, he often saw the monthly food packages being organized for local families and became interested in helping.

When Omar asked whether the team could use his workshop to prepare the packages, Abdullah immediately agreed. He now provides the space each month and helps with the packing himself. His practical, generous support gives the team a reliable place to work and makes each distribution easier to organize.

Mahmoud Houda

Food-distribution lead in Borg El Arab.

Mahmoud is a 19-year-old student who has lived in Borg El Arab with his family since childhood. Alongside his studies, he works part-time as a tuk-tuk driver to help support his parents. He began volunteering with Salsabeel in 2025 and now leads the charity’s food distribution work in the area.

He helps plan distribution days, stays in contact with local families and makes sure food packages reach people respectfully. His knowledge of Borg El Arab and his dependable approach make him an important part of Salsabeel’s work on the ground.

Digital volunteer · Website administration

Zohra Amel Ouferhat

Website administration and digital support.

Zohra is a computer science engineer with experience in web development, design and digital strategy. She joined Salsabeel in June 2025 as the charity’s website administrator and web developer. She maintains the website, updates its content and works to make the experience clear and accessible for visitors and donors.

She enjoys using her technical and creative skills for a cause that matters to her. Zohra is especially interested in the Education Bursary Program because she believes access to education can improve the future of both a student and their family. Her work behind the scenes helps Salsabeel share its programs with a wider audience.
