From OMNI News, this is the Arabic newscast. Welcome. We begin with the story of an Egyptian mother and her son, who live in two different Canadian provinces, but have managed to launch a single charitable initiative spanning Canada and Egypt. Since its founding in 2022, Salsabeel Charity has supported dozens of families, while also providing scholarships and assistance with medical and educational needs.

00:32Nehal Azab
Co-founder

It began as a dream—just an idea—that one day, God willing, when God made it possible and we had the means, we would help people in Egypt. Later, thank God, our circumstances improved, and I began going to Egypt every year. During one trip, I visited a place for the first time—an area called Siwa. The poverty I witnessed there was perhaps the worst I had ever seen.

The charity is powered by volunteers in Canada and Egypt. Meanwhile, the founders and board members cover the organization’s administrative expenses separately. This ensures that every dollar donated goes directly to programs and assistance for those in need.

Co-founder

Our charity insists that every person’s donations reach the people in need.

In 2025, the charity launched its monthly food assistance program, initially supporting 12 families in the Siwa Oasis. The program has since expanded and now serves 45 families in Siwa and Borg El Arab.

01:42Eiad El-Fateh
Co-founder

We both love running, so we organized a marathon. We wondered what we could do with the money raised, and the two of us, along with another board member, decided to create a food bank. We started by helping 12 families. Then, thank God, we raised more money, and now we support 45.

The charity’s support is not limited to food. Salsabeel launched a university scholarship program and paid school fees for about 20 students. It has also supported people facing urgent medical expenses.

02:25Eiad El-Fateh
Co-founder

We connected with a teacher at the school and spoke with him. He told us that 20 students had not paid the fees required to sit their exams. My mother and I said we could pay those fees so they would have a chance to pass.

02:42Eiad El-Fateh
Co-founder

Ultimately, our goal is to do good across the entire country. We started small in Siwa, and now we are working in Cairo and Borg El Arab. But we want to bring the same idea to other parts of Egypt and, God willing, eventually to other Arab countries as well.

The charity is preparing to hold the Egyptian Market in Abbotsford at the end of this month. The market will celebrate Egyptian culture and support local business owners, while raising awareness of the charity’s work. It will also include a fundraiser to help a university student from Siwa cover her educational and living expenses so she can complete her final year and fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher.
