About Al Manial
Al Manial is a historic neighbourhood on Al-Rawda Island in the heart of Cairo. Surrounded by the Nile and located near Cairo University and central Cairo, it is known for its tree-lined streets, active local markets and strong sense of community.
Nehal Azab and Eiad El Fateh’s family has been part of Al Manial for nearly a century. The neighbourhood remains an important part of their family history.
Our family story
Family ties to Al Manial
Nehal’s father left his village to study law at Cairo University. He eventually settled in Al Manial and built a life there with Nehal’s mother, who had lived in the neighbourhood throughout her life.
Their family’s connection to Al Manial includes education, work, friendship and generations of daily life in the neighbourhood.
Our connection to Al Manial is not simply about remembering where we came from. It is about remaining responsible to the people and community that helped shape us.
